As promised I've compared AVG Free Edition to Kaspersky's trial edition.

Ok, here's the low down

Kaspersky AntiVirus 7 23.62 MB
2.0 minutes to run setup after download
scan time >1 hr
threats found 3









AVG is very easy to set up, fast scanning and was easy to
uninstall. All in all it is a good Virus Software for the price
(FREE).

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 7.0! was also easy to install and uninstall. It was
faster scanning than AVG taking less than an hour to complete. It also
was slightly more effective finding 3 threats when AVG only found 2.

So the final word is IMOHO Kaspersky nudges out AVG by a hair.

Rising Antivirus 2007

Rising Antivirus 2007 claims to protect your computer against Tojans, worms, rootkits and other malicious programs. Uses Smartupdate technology makes it an "install and forget" software that claims Ease of use as a major selling point.

The trial download is a 34MB .exe. 31 day trial.

You can get the full licensed version for free by using the "Trial Pay" option. Just go to the downloads page and click on Antivirus free download then on the left you will see a "Fully licensed Antivirus Free" link. Click this link and it will take you to the "Trial Pay" program. You sign up for one of the partner offers and you get Rising Antivirus Free.
